About me

Jim Groom is co-founder of Reclaim Hosting, serving higher education. Formerly at the University of Mary Washington, he explored the potential and limits of institutional tech, leading him to create more open solutions. With 25+ years’ experience, he has focused on building networked learning spaces. He launched UMW Blogs, helped popularize “EDUPUNK,” and created ds106, a global online learning community. He also co-developed A Domain of One’s Own, promoting digital literacy. Since 2013, Reclaim Hosting has supported thousands of users. Groom continues advising universities and writes about educational technology and culture on his blog.
