About me

Hartmut Graßl, born in 1940, is emeritus director at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg and former professor at the University of Hamburg. He holds positions in various scientific, science policy, and economic committees. He was director of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) in Geneva, twice a member and chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU), and recipient of many awards, including the German Environmental Award for his contribution to explaining and predicting climate fluctuations. He was chairman of the board and is currently chairman of the advisory board of the Federation of German Scientists (VDW). Graßl is also editor of the scientific journal Theoretical and Applied Climatology and co-editor of the online magazine klimareporter°.
