Interactive programme
Workshops, meetups, activity stands, exhibitions, installations, and much more — the Nürnberger U:FF partner stage, Shifting:Stage, offered numerous activities parallel to the main stage program!
Workshops
Workshop: Learning and Self-Management in Engineering Studies – Teaching and Peer Coaching
With the course module “Learning and Self-Management” for first-semester engineering students, we developed an educational format that supports students in successfully managing their studies through targeted learning methods and techniques and self-management strategies. “Imagine,” an offer that everyone gladly accepts. What made this format special is its content and structure: a combination of lectures and in-depth peer coaching units planned and designed jointly by an instructor and an experienced systemic coach.
Workshop: Motivating Learning with empamos: How Game Elements Enhance Everyday Learning
What makes games so fascinating that we willingly immerse ourselves in strange worlds for hours and enthusiastically tackle challenges? And why do we often find it difficult to transfer this motivation to learning contexts? In this workshop, you discovered how to purposefully use game principles to make learning in higher education more motivating. At its core was the empirically-tested gamification framework empamos (Empirical Analysis of Motivating Game Elements), which allowed us to approach teaching and learning situations from a game designer’s perspective. Together we analyzed what often demotivates learning environments and how they can be effectively enhanced.
Workshop: Higher Education Strategy Meets Curriculum Development – Mutual Impulses for Profiling and Innovation
How can a university’s strategic objectives be effectively integrated into its academic offerings? And how can targeted curriculum development strengthen the university’s identity? In this interactive workshop, we experimented with creative methods to make university strategies tangible within teaching and degree programs. Together, we developed innovative approaches to anchor strategic goals in curricula and sustainably sharpened the university’s profile.
Workshop: Designing Asynchronous Learning Packages via Chatbot
Imagine it’s teaching time, and everyone participates—even those unable to attend the seminar. Asynchronous learning packages can help bridge gaps created when students or even instructors are absent. Preparing necessary materials, typically designed for synchronous teaching, requires significant effort. Could artificial intelligence help here? In this workshop, we collaboratively tested and critically discussed if and how AI-based chatbots can assist educators in higher education in creating asynchronous learning units.
Workshop: New Approaches in Music Pedagogy in the Digital Age
Participants experienced hands-on how digital music-making can be combined with analog methods involving acoustic instruments, body percussion, or voice. Methodological and creative possibilities were explored. The workshop concluded with perspectives on the future development of digital music pedagogy at Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg.
Workshop: Conditions for Success in Innovative and Project-Oriented Degree Programs
What are the conditions necessary for successful innovative and project-oriented degree programs? What prerequisites, goals, and visions do such programs need, and what type of support is necessary from stakeholders such as faculty, university management, administration, ministries (legal frameworks), and professional practice? The workshop aimed to develop foundations for design patterns.
Networking
Networking Event on Competency-Based Digital Assessment
Are you tired of paper-based exams and looking for inspiration for digitization?
Join the open networking event of the Bavarian joint project ii.oo! With the goal of shaping the assessment culture of the future, educators from various disciplines will share insights into their good practices from four years of the project. Exchange ideas across universities, discuss innovative assessment formats, and connect in a relaxed atmosphere.
Crowdstorming: Discovering AI in Teaching Together
Which AI tools can enhance teaching, and how? In this open space at the Technical University of Nuremberg (UTN), we collected, tested, and discussed innovative tools and use cases. C
The Online Writing Lab (OWL) – Experience Academic Writing Digitally
The Online Writing Lab (OWL) of the Nuremberg Institute of Technology presented itself with an interactive booth. A large screen allows visitors to explore the digital platform firsthand. Throughout the building, QR code stickers provided mobile access to OWL. A highlight was the Writing Type Test, which was not only available online but also in an analog format—complemented by personal conversations with the OWL team. Exclusive Goodie Bags with OWL souvenirs served as a keepsake of the world of digital academic writing.
Imagine all the People … Innovative Design Teaching – Innovative Case Studies
In today’s complex 21st-century contexts, innovative and creative practice requires new approaches. At HfK*G, we explored the theme “Imagine …”, inspired by John Lennon’s song, in an interdisciplinary teaching module. We embraced Lennon’s vision and reference the transformative power of design. In a hybrid exhibition, students presented cross-media artworks, showcasing the open creative process—from identifying problems and research phases to idea development, iterative prototyping, and the final implementation using AI tools. We presended the innovative power of interdisciplinary communication design projects and discussed how innovative teaching concepts emerge.
LEO Labs
Welcome to LEO Labs! The shared makerspace of the Nuremberg Institute of Technology, Nuremberg University of Music, and the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg was a place where learning, teaching, creative work, and interdisciplinary exchange come together. LEO Labs consisted of multiple workshops and labs—ranging from an analog workshop to a sound studio.
Kitchen Stories
The most interesting moments at conferences happen during breaks. And at parties, there’s always a place where countless people have discovered countless connections: the kitchen. We combined both and invited you to a radically informal exchange in an often-overlooked learning space—the kitchen.
Evening programme
After the programme, the participants were able to continue their discussions over snacks, drinks and music until 19:00.
On-Demand
You can find videos from Shifting:Stage Nuremberg on the YouTube channel of the Hochschulforum Digitalisierung after the U:FF 25.
The live stage in Nuremberg is organized by the Nuremberg Institute of Technology and the Technical University of Nuremberg.
