Democratizing AI for Education: Challenges and Opportunities

AI is more than just a tremendous source of information. It is a source of knowledge that can aid everyone, students, faculty, and administrators. Right now, due to the high cost of cloud AI solutions, tokens — knowledge — are being rationed. Only the wealthy individuals and companies can afford the highest level of capability from AI. Fortunately, we have a way forward. This talk will look at the three main obstacles we need to overcome — affordability, technical volatility, and future-proofing — and then share some glimpses of what our future could be in our education, research, service and administration missions.
