Christina Völlmecke leads the Stability and Failure of Functionally Optimized Structures group at the Technical University of Berlin, specializing in geometrically nonlinear modeling in applied mechanics. Her research explores additive manufactured structures, biocomposites and environmental sustainability. Committed to gender equality, she is active in various academic boards and furthermore co-founded the womxn from arts to engineering community, promoting visibility of underrepresented groups (https://www.festival.wae-community.org/). As a mother of three, she co-organizes the Berlin local group of the network Mutterschaft and Wissenschaft (https://www.mutterschaft-wissenschaft.de/lokalgruppen/) advocating for mothers in academia.
