Lifelong data literacy training: From universities to companies!

Across industries/ professions, digital and data literacy are becoming essential future skills. Technological and data analytics know-how are proving to be the basis for future employability and digital citizenship. Universities have the unique responsibility and opportunity to build these skills in tomorrow’s workforce. Data storytelling is a critical skill set that will enable students and professionals to communicate insights to others. It builds on our human ability to tell stories by combining data, narrative, and visuals into compelling data stories that are engaging, memorable, and persuasive.
This session will examine the latest advancements in data storytelling and explore the benefits it offers to individuals and organizations. To demonstrate how we can advance this super skill of tomorrow, the session will show how (A) it could be taught to students across subjects and faculties with a blended e-learning approach, using on- and offsite lectures, breakout workshops, tutoring sessions, learning videos, projects and expert talks, as well as how (B) professionals can be trained by on- and offline coachings, boot camps, labs, webinars, whitepapers/ articles/ books or infotaining microlearnings for autodidactic use. A key takeaway of this session will be how both approaches can be blended and interconnected for a “seamless” life-long data literacy learning journey by using, for example
(1) social tools and their algorithms or
(2) artificial intelligence
to design individual learning plans on people’s career paths.
