Internationalization from bottom-up

Internationalization became a key word in many universities with the rise of globalization. In Europe, student mobility is mainly linked to the ERASMUS exchange program which leaves out international students coming to study a full degree program. Our focus is precisely on this particular group.

We will present the importance of participation and community building processes for the well-being of international students by illustrating the example of our feminist-participatory-action-research (FPAR) project done at Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin (ASH). Besides advocacy actions aiming for institutional changes, one of the most important building blocks of the project was to collectivize experiences.

In our 30-minute talk, we will present the importance of bottom-up approaches for internationalization processes at universities and how these can be realized through a feminist-participatory-action-research (FPAR) approach.
