EduLab - Experimental teaching with a digital network of international laboratories
EduLab is a digital experimental teaching course on "Building Energy Performance". The concept is based on the work of the InterReg project RCC/KN: Réseau de Chambres Climatiques | Climate Laboratory Network. In this research project, 5 partner universities from D, F, B and L, which have already been working together since 2015 within the framework of the University of the Greater Region, have connected their laboratories with a digital platform.
The platform provides real-time data from the laboratories (e.g., temperature and pressure values of heat pumps, chillers, etc.), which can be visualized graphically and read out as raw data. This enables laboratory experiments to be carried out and avoid redundancies in equipment and skills of the lecturers and laboratory staff. New learning opportunities are opened up to university students without the need for additional ecological or economic resources. In the English-speaking digital course series, group work is carried out with students from other countries. This promotes social and language skills and international networking.
Lecture units are combined with discussion boards, surveys, measurements and calculations with live data from the laboratories. For example, surveys are conducted on thermal comfort, room conditions are simulated in the climatic chamber, measurements are made for the cooling/heating systems. The students discuss the expected results with each other in advance and compare them with the measurements and calculations. The previous test courses have been positively evaluated, especially because of the high degree of interaction and the practical relevance. It is feasible that the methodological conceptualization of EduLab can also be transferred to other disciplines and fields.
